A unique piece of African craftsmanship, handmade in Cameroon by artisans from the Bamileke tradition.

The sculpture is entirely covered by hand with thousands of tiny glass beads, carefully applied to create the expressive face and graphic patterns. This particular piece is finished with natural cowrie shells, adding texture and another traditional element to the design.

Cowrie shells have a long history in African cultures. Once used as a form of currency, they became associated with wealth, prosperity and protection and have been incorporated into jewellery, ceremonial objects and decorative pieces for generations.

Each Bamileke head is made individually and no two are exactly alike. Colours, patterns, facial expressions and the placement of the shells vary from piece to piece — precisely what gives every sculpture its own personality.

More than a decorative object, it is a small piece of craftsmanship with a strong cultural identity and an unmistakable presence.
