Darija Tin Signs – Hand-Painted Street Art from Marrakech
These hand-painted Darija tin signs are a joyful tribute to everyday life in the Medina of Marrakech.
Inspired by the iconic shop signs that color the streets of the old city, each plaque represents a profession, trade or everyday role — illustrated with humor, warmth and a touch of naïve charm. The texts are painted in Darija (Moroccan Arabic), often combined with French or English, just like you’d see on the streets of Marrakech.
Every sign is hand-painted by local artists in Marrakech, using oil paint on recycled tin metal. No two pieces are ever exactly alike: brushstrokes remain visible, lines are sometimes imperfect, and that is exactly what gives each piece its soul. These are not factory-made objects — they are small works of popular street art.
Perfect as wall art in a kitchen, hallway, studio, shop or workspace, or as an original gift for someone proud of their profession — from butcher to pediatrician, tattoo artist to handyman.
