Ecru, hot pink and green. Some colour combinations simply work.

This vintage Moroccan couverture didn't need much convincing. The creamy, natural background already had a beautiful woven texture, but those wonderfully bright fuchsia and green stripes gave it a completely different personality.

We found the original textile at the Marrakech criée during our October 2026 sourcing trip. One large couverture, plenty of fabric and a rather obvious idea: cushions!

The result is WARDI, a limited series of twelve generous, double-sided cushions, handmade in Marrakech.

FROM THE CRIÉE TO OUR MAÂLEMS

Once the couverture was selected, it was brought to Boujma and Ayoub, the maâlems who help us transform beautiful existing textiles into something new.

The original fabric was laid out, measured and carefully cut into individual pieces before being sewn into cushion covers.

We love that we have photographs of the entire process, from the original couverture at the market to the finished cushions.

It's a lovely reminder that these pieces started as something completely different.

SIMPLE STRIPES, BEAUTIFUL COLOURS

The combination is quite straightforward: natural ecru, vivid fuchsia pink and rich green. No complicated pattern needed.

The varying placement of the stripes means each cushion looks slightly different. Some show more of the natural woven background, while others feature broader sections of colour.

Both sides are made from the original textile, so you can turn your cushion around whenever you feel like changing things up.

At 60 × 60 cm, WARDI is a lovely generous size for a sofa, daybed or bedroom. Beautiful on its own, but also easy to combine with other vintage Moroccan textiles.

And yes, it looks particularly good next to our darker WARDI cushions.

UPCYCLED & HANDMADE

Rather than producing new fabric, we work with existing Moroccan textiles and give them a new purpose.

The original couverture has a naturally textured weave, with small irregularities and subtle variations that belong to the fabric's previous life.

Each cushion is individually cut and sewn by hand in Marrakech, making this a small series rather than a mass-produced collection.

Avoid machine washing and harsh cleaning products. Keep away from prolonged direct sunlight to help preserve the pink and green stripes.

HANDMADE CHARACTER

WARDI is made from an original vintage Moroccan textile. Minor imperfections in the weave, variations in colour and differences in stripe placement are natural characteristics of the fabric.

Each cushion is slightly different, and that's part of the charm of working with existing textiles.
