As your personal rug hunter in Morocco, I regularly visit the criée berbère — the traditional carpet auction in the bustling souks of Marrakech. Here, Berber men present the woven work of their wives, sisters and mothers, and we bid directly on the spot. About Boucherouite Rugs

Unlike many Moroccan rugs traditionally made from wool, Boucherouite rugs are crafted from recycled textiles — cotton fabrics, clothing remnants, and other materials that are cut into strips and woven into a cotton base.

The name Boucherouite comes from the Moroccan Arabic “bu sherwit”, meaning “rag” or “scrap of used clothing.” What began as a practical way to reuse materials has evolved into one of the most expressive and colorful weaving traditions in Morocco.
