Chocolate brown with a very unexpected touch of pink.

We came across this beautiful old Moroccan couverture at the Marrakech criée, and the colour combination was simply too good to leave behind.

A deep, earthy brown, crossed by bold fuchsia stripes with fine petrol-green details. Quite a contrast, really. But somehow it works beautifully.

Rather than keeping the couverture in its original large format, we decided to have it transformed into a limited series of generous, reversible cushions.

And here they are: KAHWA.

FROM ONE VINTAGE COUVERTURE

The original textile was sourced in Marrakech during our October 2026 buying trip.

After selecting it at the criée, we worked with our maâlems Boujma and Ayoub to turn the large couverture into individual cushion covers.

The fabric was measured, cut and sewn locally, making the most of its original striped design.

Each cushion carries a slightly different part of the couverture. On some, the pink stripes run closer to the edges; on others, the rich brown textile takes centre stage.

The result is a small collection of cushions that look wonderful together, without being completely identical.

TWO SIDES, ONE BEAUTIFUL TEXTILE

KAHWA is designed as a reversible cushion, with the vintage fabric giving both sides their own character.

The contrast between the earthy brown background and the vivid fuchsia stripes makes it surprisingly easy to combine with other colours and textures.

Try it with natural linen, warm neutrals, faded vintage rugs or even another boldly patterned cushion.

It's a generous 60 × 60 cm format, ideal for a sofa, a deep armchair or a relaxed, layered bed.

HANDMADE & UPCYCLED

Giving existing textiles a new purpose is an important part of what we do at SOUK in the CITY.

These cushions are made from an original Moroccan couverture rather than newly manufactured fabric.

The weave has its own texture, with little irregularities, colour variations and traces of its previous life. They are part of the textile's character and make every cushion slightly different.
