SOUK in the CITY
Boujad Rug – BZEF | ca. 150 × 100 cm
Handwoven from sheep's wool, incorporating repurposed, previously dyed yarns. This gives the rug its wonderfully rich colour palette, subtle variations and unique character.
A little bit of everything? Make that BZEF!
This one has such a lovely personality.
A creamy wool background, crossed by a wonderfully bold geometric X in warm mustard orange, soft green, dusty pink and deep charcoal. Around it, little touches of burgundy, turquoise and irregular stripes bring even more colour into the mix.
What we particularly love is how the pattern seems quite structured at first, but becomes beautifully playful the closer you look.
And that thick, chunky sheep's wool? Wonderfully soft and full of texture.
We named her BZEF, from the Moroccan Darija word for a lot.
Because there's a lot to love about this one!

A LITTLE ABOUT BOUJAD RUGS
Boujad rugs originate from central Morocco and are known for their expressive Amazigh weaving traditions.
Traditionally woven by women, these rugs are loved for their unusual colour combinations, irregular geometric motifs and wonderfully free designs.
Many newly made Boujads incorporate previously coloured or reused wool, giving old yarns a new life and creating beautiful variations in colour.
BZEF combines this freedom with a rather striking geometric composition.
Her central X almost looks like a contemporary graphic design, while the little irregular motifs and changes in texture make it unmistakably handmade.
FOUND AT THE MARRAKECH CRIÉE
BZEF was personally selected during our October 2026 sourcing trip at the Marrakech rug auction, better known as the criée.
A place full of colourful carpets, endless piles, people negotiating and rugs being unfolded one after another.
And somewhere in the middle of it all, us, trying to keep track of everything we've spotted.
BZEF caught our attention with that unusual combination of soft pink, fresh green and warm orange.
A lovely alternative to the more traditional reds and burgundies often associated with Boujad rugs.
A LITTLE STOPOVER AT DAR TCHAIKANA
Before travelling to Belgium, BZEF joined our other Marrakech finds for a photoshoot at Riad Dar Tchaikana.
We photographed her in front of those beautiful old wooden doors, surrounded by the greenery of the courtyard.
And she's one of those rugs that looks completely different depending on how you photograph her.
Spread out on the floor, you really notice the strong geometric pattern. Held up against the doors, all those chunky wool textures become even more visible.
Another lovely little find making her way from Marrakech to Belgium.
And another merci to the ladies of Dar Tchaikana for their patience with our ever-growing collection of carpets!
SMALL RUG, PLENTY OF POSSIBILITIES
At approximately 100 × 150 cm, BZEF is a lovely size beside a bed, in a reading corner or next to a vintage armchair.
The soft cream and pink tones balance the stronger mustard and green, making her surprisingly easy to combine with both colourful and more neutral interiors.
And that big geometric X?
We could absolutely imagine BZEF as a tapis tableau, displayed on a wall like a piece of textile art.
THE BEAUTY OF HANDMADE
BZEF is individually handmade from sheep's wool.
Slightly uneven edges, variations in pile height and small irregularities in the design are part of her character.
Please allow for small variations in measurements. Colours may appear slightly different depending on your screen and lighting.
One of a kind. Lots of colour, lots of character. BZEF, indeed!
