SOUK in the CITY
Boujad Rug – BRAZA | ca. 150 × 100 cm
Handwoven from sheep's wool, incorporating repurposed, previously dyed yarns. This gives the rug its wonderfully rich colour palette, subtle variations and unique character.
Hot colours, plenty of attitude. Meet BRAZA!
Well, this one certainly isn't shy.
A wonderfully fiery Moroccan Boujad rug in the most gorgeous shades of deep raspberry red, crimson, fuchsia and bright burnt orange.
The design is made up of little irregular geometric shapes scattered across a rich red background. Some resemble diamonds, others look like abstract symbols or tiny figures.
And then there's that beautiful texture. Thick, chunky sheep's wool arranged in slightly uneven horizontal rows, giving the whole rug an almost ribbed appearance.
The orange motifs seem to pop right out of the red wool.
Warm, bold and a little dramatic. In the best possible way!
We named her BRAZA, inspired by the idea of glowing embers. Quite fitting for this little firecracker.

A LITTLE ABOUT BOUJAD RUGS
Boujad rugs originate from central Morocco, a region known for its expressive Amazigh weaving traditions.
Traditionally woven by women, these rugs are loved for their freedom in colour, irregular geometric patterns and wonderfully spontaneous compositions.
Many newly made Boujads incorporate reused wool, giving previously coloured yarns a new life and creating beautiful variations in colour and texture.
BRAZA is a particularly bold example.
Instead of the softer cream backgrounds found in some of our other Boujad pieces, she's covered in rich reds and oranges, with little geometric motifs appearing between the textured rows of wool.
The result is almost graphic, but wonderfully tactile at the same time.
And we love how the colours seem to change slightly depending on the light.
FOUND AT THE MARRAKECH CRIÉE
BRAZA was personally selected during our October 2026 sourcing trip at the Marrakech rug auction, better known as the criée.
Piles of carpets everywhere, rugs being unfolded one after another, people calling out prices and negotiating in every direction.
And somewhere in the middle of it all, us, trying to keep track of our favourites.
Among all those colourful Boujad rugs, BRAZA was impossible to overlook.
That intense red, those bright orange motifs and that wonderful chunky wool texture.
Not exactly a subtle little find!
But sometimes that's precisely what we're looking for.
A LITTLE STOPOVER AT DAR TCHAIKANA
Before travelling to Belgium, BRAZA joined our other Marrakech rug discoveries for a little photoshoot at Riad Dar Tchaikana.
Those beautiful old wooden doors, the courtyard greenery and the soft natural light have become a favourite backdrop for our SOUK rugs.
BRAZA was photographed up close too, because that lovely thick pile and those irregular rows of wool really deserve a closer look.
And don't forget the reverse! Turn over a corner and you'll discover a beautiful mix of finer woven stripes in blue, green, orange and red.
Once again, a big merci to the lovely ladies of Dar Tchaikana for letting us turn their peaceful riad into our improvised rug photo studio.
SMALL RUG, BIG PERSONALITY
At approximately 100 × 150 cm, BRAZA is perfect for adding a strong splash of colour to a smaller space.
Imagine her beside a vintage armchair, in a cosy reading corner, next to a bed or combined with warm wooden furniture and colourful cushions.
She would look fantastic in an eclectic interior, but could be just as striking in a more neutral room.
And with those bold colours and graphic motifs, BRAZA would make a wonderful tapis tableau too.
Because a rug this colourful deserves to be seen!
THE BEAUTY OF HANDMADE
BRAZA is individually handmade from sheep's wool.
Slightly uneven edges, differences in pile height, irregular rows and little variations in colour are all part of her handmade character.
Please allow for small variations in measurements. Colours may appear slightly different depending on your screen and lighting.
One of a kind. Bold, beautifully woolly and bringing a little fire into the room.
