SOUK in the CITY
Boujad Rug – BISMILLAH | ca. 150 × 100 cm
Handwoven from sheep's wool, incorporating repurposed, previously dyed yarns. This gives the rug its wonderfully rich colour palette, subtle variations and unique character.
A little bit of everything, and somehow it all works. Meet BISMILLAH!
Burnt orange, golden yellow, turquoise, faded denim blue, burgundy, dusty pink and a touch of sage green. Quite a colour combination, isn't it?
BISMILLAH brings them all together in a wonderfully playful, almost architectural design. Bold geometric shapes, unexpected colour blocks and a few rather mysterious little figures.
The deep blue section at the bottom gives the whole composition a lovely balance, while the thick, beautifully textured wool makes the colours come alive.
A little piece of abstract art for your floor. And a very SOUK kind of find!

A LITTLE ABOUT BOUJAD RUGS
Boujad rugs come from the region around Boujad in central Morocco, known for its wonderfully expressive Amazigh weaving traditions.
Traditionally woven by women, these rugs are loved for their unusual colour combinations, abstract motifs and rather relaxed approach to symmetry.
Many designs contain symbols associated with protection, femininity, fertility or everyday life, although their exact meanings can vary between weavers and communities.
And not every little shape needs an explanation, either.
Our new Boujad collection is particularly interesting because many pieces are woven using existing, previously coloured wool rather than freshly dyed yarn.
The result? Beautifully layered colours, unexpected combinations and plenty of character.
These are newly woven rugs, not vintage pieces, even if the wool itself may have had a previous life.
FOUND AT THE MARRAKECH CRIÉE
BISMILLAH was personally selected during our October 2026 sourcing trip at the Marrakech rug auction, better known as the criée.
A wonderfully chaotic place, with piles of rugs everywhere, people negotiating, carpets being unfolded and new discoveries appearing around every corner.
Among all those rugs, BISMILLAH immediately caught our attention.
Those big abstract shapes, that unusual combination of warm and cool colours, and the wonderfully thick wool. Definitely one we weren't leaving behind!
Before travelling to Belgium, BISMILLAH also enjoyed a little photoshoot at Riad Dar Tchaikana, where we photographed our latest Marrakech finds among the beautiful old wooden doors and greenery.
A big merci once again to the lovely ladies of Dar Tchaikana for putting up with our temporary rug studio!
A LITTLE COLOUR, A LOT OF CHARACTER
BISMILLAH would look wonderful beside a bed, in a cosy reading corner or next to a vintage armchair.
And with that striking abstract composition, we can absolutely imagine this one hanging on a wall as a tapis tableau.
Traditional Moroccan craftsmanship with a surprisingly contemporary look.
THE BEAUTY OF HANDMADE
BISMILLAH is a newly handwoven Moroccan rug, made from natural sheep's wool.
Slightly uneven edges, variations in pile height, irregular shapes and subtle differences in colour are part of its handmade character.
Please allow for small variations in measurements and remember that colours may look slightly different depending on your screen and lighting.
One of a kind. A little bold, a little unexpected. And full of personality.
