A little wild, wonderfully colourful. Meet BIBI!

Some rugs have a few carefully chosen colours and a perfectly balanced pattern.

BIBI clearly had other plans.

A fantastic mix of tiny colourful stripes, with four large diamond motifs scattered across the surface. Warm orange, pink, turquoise, mustard yellow, mint green, deep red, purple, cobalt blue and black. All happily mixed together.

The diamonds bring a little structure to the design, while those wonderfully irregular stripes keep everything playful and spontaneous.

And the texture! Thick, beautifully chunky sheep's wool, with little variations in colour and pile that make her even more interesting up close.

Quite a colourful little character, this one.

A LITTLE ABOUT BOUJAD RUGS

Boujad rugs originate from central Morocco, a region known for its expressive Amazigh weaving traditions.

Traditionally woven by women, these rugs are loved for their freedom in colour, unusual geometric patterns and wonderfully spontaneous compositions.

The diamond is a recurring motif in Amazigh weaving, sometimes associated with femininity, fertility or protection. Its precise meaning, however, depends on the weaver and the tradition.

Many newly made Boujad rugs also incorporate reused wool, giving previously coloured yarns a new life and creating those wonderfully unpredictable colour combinations.

BIBI brings all of this together beautifully. Traditional diamond shapes, a playful striped background and enough colour to make just about any room smile.

FOUND AT THE MARRAKECH CRIÉE

BIBI was personally selected during our October 2026 sourcing trip at the Marrakech rug auction, better known as the criée.

Piles of carpets everywhere, rugs being unfolded one after another, people negotiating, calling out prices and carrying things around.

And somewhere in the middle of it all, us, trying to keep track of our favourites.

Quite a challenge when there are so many colourful rugs calling for attention!

BIBI immediately stood out with her bold diamonds and incredibly rich mix of colours.

Another one for the SOUK collection.

A LITTLE STOPOVER AT DAR TCHAIKANA

Before travelling to Belgium, BIBI had her photoshoot at Riad Dar Tchaikana, one of our favourite Marrakech addresses.

Laid out across the beautiful courtyard floor, surrounded by those old wooden doors, warm terracotta tiles and plenty of greenery.

The perfect setting to photograph all those colourful little woollen details.

And once again, merci to the lovely ladies of Dar Tchaikana for letting us turn their peaceful riad into our improvised rug photo studio!

SMALL RUG, BIG PERSONALITY

At approximately 100 × 150 cm, BIBI is a lovely size beside a bed, in a colourful reading corner, next to a vintage armchair or in a playful, eclectic interior.

And those four diamonds almost make her look like a piece of abstract textile art.

We can definitely imagine BIBI as a tapis tableau on the wall too.

THE BEAUTY OF HANDMADE

BIBI is individually handmade from sheep's wool.

Slightly uneven edges, irregular patterns and variations in pile height and colour are all part of her handmade character.
