SOUK in the CITY
Boujad Rug – BARAKA | ca. 200 × 140 cm
Handwoven from sheep's wool, incorporating repurposed, previously dyed yarns. This gives the rug its wonderfully rich colour palette, subtle variations and unique character.
A little colour, a little more colour... Meet BARAKA!
Some rugs have one big geometric pattern. Others stick to a carefully chosen colour palette.
And then there's BARAKA.
A wonderfully colourful vintage Boujad rug, covered in hundreds of irregular little stripes. Warm orange, terracotta, raspberry pink, deep red, turquoise, cobalt blue, olive green, purple and plenty of natural wool tones in between.
The colours come and go, the stripes change in width and nothing is perfectly repeated. Yet somehow, it all works beautifully together.
And that thick, soft sheep's wool pile? Quite something!
BARAKA takes her name from the Arabic word for blessing. A lovely name for this colourful little treasure.
A LITTLE ABOUT BOUJAD RUGS
Boujad rugs originate from the Boujad region in central Morocco, known for its expressive Amazigh weaving traditions.
Traditionally woven by women, these rugs are loved for their freedom in colour and design. Irregular geometric patterns, unexpected combinations and compositions that rarely worry too much about symmetry.
BARAKA is a little different from the more familiar diamond-patterned Boujads.
Instead of large motifs, she's all about colourful horizontal stripes, rich textures and wonderfully spontaneous colour combinations.
Turn over a corner and you'll discover another lovely detail: the reverse reveals finer coloured lines against the natural woven wool base.
Traditional Moroccan craftsmanship with an almost contemporary, playful look.
ANOTHER FIND AT THE MARRAKECH CRIÉE
BARAKA was personally selected during our October 2026 sourcing trip at the Marrakech rug auction, better known as the criée.
One of our favourite places to hunt for unusual rugs, although it's not exactly a peaceful shopping experience.
Carpets everywhere, rugs being unfolded, prices being called out, people negotiating and carrying things around.
And somewhere in the middle of it all, us, trying to keep track of everything we've spotted.
Not always our greatest talent!
BARAKA was part of a particularly colourful Boujad selection that day. A little larger than most of our smaller finds, beautifully thick and with such a fantastic mix of colours.
Another one we simply couldn't leave behind.
A LITTLE STOPOVER AT DAR TCHAIKANA
Before travelling to Belgium, BARAKA had her little photoshoot at Riad Dar Tchaikana, one of our favourite Marrakech addresses.
This time, those magnificent old wooden courtyard doors made the perfect backdrop.
We draped her over the doors, played with the folds and photographed all those beautiful colours and textures in the natural daylight.
Even the reverse side deserved a picture!
And once again, a big merci to the lovely ladies of Dar Tchaikana for letting us turn another corner of their peaceful riad into our improvised rug photo studio.
WARM COLOURS, PLENTY OF POSSIBILITIES
At approximately 140 × 200 cm, BARAKA is a lovely size for adding colour without taking over an entire room.
Beautiful beside a vintage sofa, under a coffee table, next to a favourite armchair or in a cosy bedroom.
And with so many colours to play with, she's surprisingly easy to combine. A little pink cushion, something turquoise, a touch of orange...
Or nothing matching at all.
BARAKA has enough personality to do her own thing.

THE BEAUTY OF HANDMADE
BARAKA is an individually handmade Moroccan rug, woven from natural sheep's wool.
Slightly uneven edges, variations in pile height and little irregularities in the weaving are all part of her charm.
Please allow for small variations in measurements. Colours may also appear slightly different depending on your screen and lighting.
One of a kind. Wonderfully woolly, gloriously colourful and not afraid to mix things up a little.
