SOUK in the CITY
Boujad Rug – BAB | ca. 150 × 100 cm
Handwoven from sheep's wool, incorporating repurposed, previously dyed yarns. This gives the rug its wonderfully rich colour palette, subtle variations and unique character.
A little bold, a little unexpected. Meet BAB!
A wonderfully expressive Moroccan Boujad rug with a beautiful mix of dusty blue-grey, soft blush pink and striking red geometric motifs.
The design is almost divided into three colourful sections, with a series of irregular diamond shapes running through the middle. Bright turquoise, warm orange, coral, cream and little touches of green and black add even more personality.
Some patterns seem to wander off in their own direction, others appear almost like little handwritten symbols.
Nothing perfectly symmetrical. Nothing too predictable.
And that thick, soft sheep's wool pile? Absolutely lovely!
BAB takes her name from the Arabic word for door. A little nod to Marrakech and those beautiful old doors we seem to fall in love with everywhere.

A LITTLE ABOUT BOUJAD RUGS
Boujad rugs originate from central Morocco, a region known for its expressive Amazigh weaving traditions.
Traditionally woven by women, these rugs are loved for their freedom in colour, irregular geometric patterns and wonderfully spontaneous compositions.
Many newly made Boujads incorporate reused wool, giving previously coloured yarns a new life and creating those beautiful variations in colour and texture.
BAB is a lovely example of this creative freedom.
Her central diamond motifs recall traditional Amazigh designs, sometimes associated with protection or femininity, although their exact meanings can vary between weavers and communities.
Combined with those soft blue-grey and pink colour fields, the result feels almost like a contemporary abstract painting.
FOUND AT THE MARRAKECH CRIÉE
BAB was personally selected during our October 2026 sourcing trip at the Marrakech rug auction, better known as the criée.
Piles of carpets everywhere, rugs being unfolded one after another, prices being called out and people negotiating in every direction.
And somewhere in the middle of it all, us, trying to keep track of our favourites.
Not always easy!
Among all those colourful Boujads, BAB stood out with her beautiful blue-grey wool, soft pink centre and striking red geometric design.
A lovely combination we simply couldn't leave behind.
A LITTLE STOPOVER AT DAR TCHAIKANA
Before travelling to Belgium, BAB had her photoshoot at Riad Dar Tchaikana, one of our favourite Marrakech addresses.
This time, we found a beautiful spot in front of the colourful painted doors, surrounded by greenery and the warm stone of the courtyard.
Those soft blue-grey and pink tones looked wonderful against the colours of the old woodwork.
And once again, merci to the lovely ladies of Dar Tchaikana for letting us turn their peaceful riad into our improvised rug photo studio!
Quite fitting for a rug named BAB, don't you think?
SMALL RUG, BIG PERSONALITY
At approximately 100 × 150 cm, BAB is a lovely size beside a bed, next to a vintage armchair, in a reading corner or as a colourful accent in an eclectic interior.
Her blue-grey and blush pink tones make her surprisingly easy to combine, while the bright red motifs give her just enough attitude.
And with that strong central composition, we can definitely imagine BAB as a tapis tableau too.
A little piece of textile art for the wall.
THE BEAUTY OF HANDMADE
BAB is individually handmade from sheep's wool.
Slightly uneven edges, variations in pile height and little irregularities in the design are all part of her handmade character.
Please allow for small variations in measurements. Colours may appear slightly different depending on your screen and lighting.
One of a kind. Soft in colour, bold in character and ready to open a few doors.
