Meet SORAYA, a wonderfully colourful vintage Moroccan Boucherouite with an unexpected combination of patterns and textures.

Its deep aubergine and purple background is interrupted by a beautiful mint-green section and a playful red-and-ivory checkerboard pattern. Three large geometric diamonds run along the length of the rug, each made up of countless little pieces of colour.

Look closely and you'll discover pink, turquoise, red, yellow, blue, cream and warm rust tones, all mixed together in a wonderfully textured design.

FOUND AT THE CRIÉE IN MARRAKECH

SORAYA was personally sourced at the criée berbère, the traditional carpet market in Marrakech, where traders gather to buy and sell vintage rugs and textiles.

After being selected, it was thoroughly washed by local specialists in Marrakech, photographed in the Moroccan sunshine and carefully packed for its journey to Belgium.

The photographs were taken on the rooftop of our riad, where its colours and wonderfully rich texture really came to life.

COLOUR, TEXTURE & CHARACTER

What makes SORAYA particularly interesting is the contrast between its different sections.

The deep purple background has a beautifully thick, shaggy texture, while the colourful diamond motifs add even more depth and detail.

The mint-green and checkerboard sections bring a playful twist to the composition.

And like so many authentic vintage Moroccan rugs, SORAYA is not perfectly straight or symmetrical. Its slightly irregular edges, variations in weaving and original vintage character are all part of what makes it unique.

A beautiful statement piece for a hallway, a colourful interior or a space that could use a little more personality.
