A COLOURFUL LITTLE MOSAIC

Meet NAYLA, a vintage Moroccan Boucherouite rug with a wonderfully graphic personality.

A playful mix of cherry red, dusty pink, turquoise blue, black, cream and touches of mustard and orange. Small blocks of colour come together in a beautiful geometric composition, with a central diamond pattern that almost looks like a woven mosaic.

What makes NAYLA particularly interesting is her texture. Unlike the thicker, shaggy Boucherouite rugs, this one has a shorter, more compact pile and a firmer feel. It sits flatter on the floor, making it a lovely choice for a living room, underneath a coffee table or in a cosy corner that could use some colour.

And those hand-braided fringes? Such a lovely finishing detail.

FOUND AT THE CRIÉE IN MARRAKECH

NAYLA was personally sourced at the criée berbère, the traditional carpet market in Marrakech, where we search through piles of vintage rugs and textiles, looking for pieces worth bringing home.

We particularly loved the colours and the almost pixel-like arrangement of the pattern. From a distance, it looks quite graphic and structured. Come closer, and you discover all the little variations in colour, texture and weaving.

After being selected at the market, NAYLA was cleaned locally in Marrakech, photographed on the rooftop of our riad and carefully packed for the journey to Belgium.

BEAUTIFULLY IMPERFECT

NAYLA is a genuine vintage piece, not a newly manufactured rug.

Her slightly irregular outline, variations in pile height, visible textile fibres and small signs of previous use are part of her character. The pattern isn't perfectly symmetrical, and that's exactly what we love about these original Moroccan textiles.

A unique find with plenty of colour, history and personality.

Professional textile cleaning recommended. Avoid machine washing and harsh cleaning products. Spot-clean gently when necessary, after testing a small, inconspicuous area. Allow to dry thoroughly.
