Boucherouite Rug – MOSA | ca 220 × 130 cm
An original vintage Moroccan rug, selected for its exceptional textile composition. Irregular edges, visible fabric strips, colour variations and signs of age are part of its handmade character.
Some rugs are made to blend in. MOSA clearly had other plans.
At first glance, it's almost impossible to know where to look. Little fragments of colour everywhere. Deep blues, faded pinks, turquoise, mustard, rust, cream and black, all woven into an extraordinary composition that seems to change every time you look at it.
Stand back, and it becomes something entirely different. Almost an abstract painting, framed by a dark border and finished with beautifully irregular, multicoloured fringes.
MOSA is one of those vintage Moroccan rugs we particularly love finding. Not the easiest pieces to come across anymore, and certainly not the ones that go unnoticed at the criée.
A sought-after find at the Marrakech criée
MOSA was personally selected during our October 2026 sourcing trip, at Marrakech's traditional carpet auction.
The atmosphere at the criée can get pretty lively, especially when an unusual vintage piece appears. Rugs with this kind of intricate composition, texture and character are increasingly difficult to find, and they tend to attract plenty of attention.
MOSA was one of those finds worth bidding for.
After the auction, the rug was cleaned locally in Marrakech before being packed for its journey to Belgium.
A mosaic of recycled textiles
Traditional Boucherouite weaving makes use of existing fabrics, often old clothing and textile remnants, transforming them into something entirely new.
MOSA is a beautiful example of just how creative this technique can become.
Look closely, and you'll discover individual strips of fabric, variations in thickness, small knots and wonderfully unexpected combinations of colours and textures.
The design isn't perfectly symmetrical or neatly repeated. Instead, the different shapes and colours flow into each other, creating an almost painterly effect.
The dark border gives the whole composition a certain structure, while the original fringes and irregular edges remind us of the age and handmade nature of the piece.
A rug, or perhaps a work of art?
With its complex pattern and rich surface, MOSA looks equally interesting laid out on the floor or displayed as textile wall art.
It would make a beautiful statement in a living room, a creative workspace or an interior where vintage textiles and contemporary design meet.
And because this is a genuine vintage piece, there is only one.

Care & maintenance
Gently vacuum using a suction-only setting, without a rotating brush. Avoid pulling on loose textile fibres.
Professional cleaning by a specialist experienced with vintage Moroccan rugs is recommended. Do not machine wash.
Keep away from prolonged direct sunlight to help preserve the colours. We recommend a non-slip underlay when using MOSA as a floor rug.
Handmade character
MOSA is an original vintage Moroccan textile. Slight variations in shape, irregular edges, exposed fabric ends, differences in texture and signs of age are all part of its character.
