BAMILEKE BEADED HEAD - burgundy stripe
A bold and expressive piece of African craftsmanship, handmade in Cameroon and inspired by the rich artistic traditions of the Bamileke people.
Thousands of tiny glass beads are meticulously applied by hand, following the sculptural contours of the face. This unique piece combines deep burgundy and ivory stripes with vivid blue, coral and red details, creating a striking graphic pattern that gives the sculpture its unmistakable character.
Beadwork has an important place within Bamileke artistic tradition. Historically, elaborate beaded objects were associated with prestige, status and identity, particularly within the royal courts and kingdoms of western Cameroon.
The beauty of these contemporary Bamileke heads lies not only in their colours, but also in the incredible amount of handwork behind them. Every curve, line and facial feature is built up bead by bead, turning each head into a small sculptural artwork.
Display it on its own as an eye-catching object or combine it with other Bamileke heads in contrasting colours, patterns and sizes to create a wonderfully eclectic collection.
As every piece is made entirely by hand, no two are exactly alike. Small irregularities and variations are part of its character and make each sculpture truly one of a kind.
