Vintage Boucherouite Rug — AMAL | 150 x 125 cm
This is a one-of-a-kind handmade vintage piece. Small irregularities in shape, weave and colour, as well as subtle traces of its previous life, are part of its unique character.
Meet AMAL — a colourful vintage Boucherouite with a story before it even reached us.
I found this one at the criée berbère, the traditional rug auction where local traders gather and bid on unique pieces brought in from the surrounding regions. And somewhere between all those rugs, AMAL caught my eye.
Handwoven in the Ourika region from mainly cotton and repurposed textiles, its patchwork of blues, greens, pinks and purples surrounds a wonderfully irregular central motif. A little quirky, very colourful and completely one of a kind — exactly the kind of vintage piece I love finding.
RUG OR ART?
With its smaller size and wonderfully graphic composition, AMAL is what we like to call a tapis-tableau — a rug that works just as beautifully on the wall as it does on the floor.
Hang it as a one-of-a-kind piece of textile art for an instant injection of colour and texture, or simply use it as a rug. We love it both ways.

CARE
One of the practical things we love about Boucherouite rugs is that they are mainly made from cotton and repurposed textiles.
Smaller pieces can generally be machine washed on a cold, delicate programme with a mild detergent. Avoid high-speed spinning and let your rug air-dry naturally.
As every vintage Boucherouite is different in age and composition, professional cleaning is always the safest option when in doubt.
