SOUK in the CITY
Boucherouite Kilim – AZIZ | approx. 90 × 135 cm
One of a kind means exactly that: there is only one AZIZ.
This is a handmade vintage textile. Irregular edges, variations in weave and colour, visible textile ends and traces of its previous life are all part of its character and history — not flaws.
Layers of colour, texture and Moroccan textile history.
AZIZ is a one-of-a-kind vintage Boucherouite kilim, handwoven from strips of repurposed textiles in an ever-changing rhythm of blue, red, ivory, turquoise, brown and flashes of orange and yellow.
Unlike the thicker, high-pile Boucherouite rugs, AZIZ has a flatter, more structured weave. The horizontal bands alternate between tightly woven sections and wonderfully raw, almost fringed rows of recycled fabric. Nothing is perfectly uniform — and that is exactly what gives this rug its character.
Colourful without feeling overly bright, AZIZ has that beautifully lived-in quality we love in older Moroccan textiles. An easy piece to layer into a contemporary interior, but equally at home in something more eclectic.
Personally sourced in Morocco. Vintage. One of a kind.

ORIGIN & SOURCING
Personally selected in Morocco for SOUK in the CITY.
Boucherouite rugs are traditionally created by giving existing textiles a new life. Strips and remnants of fabric are worked directly into the weave, resulting in spontaneous combinations of colour, texture and material that can never be reproduced exactly.
AZIZ immediately stood out for its unusually balanced palette and its almost striped composition — still unmistakably Boucherouite, but calmer and more graphic than many of the exuberantly colourful pieces.
Rug or textile art? AZIZ works beautifully as both.
Thanks to its smaller size and flatwoven construction, it can be used traditionally as a rug or displayed on the wall as a tapis tableau — a one-of-a-kind piece of Moroccan textile art.
CARE
Vacuum gently without a rotating brush or beater bar. Shake or air the rug outside from time to time to remove loose dust.
Treat small stains locally with cold water and a little mild soap. For a thorough clean, we recommend a professional experienced with handmade and vintage Moroccan rugs.
