SOUK in the CITY
Handwoven Bolga Fan
Part fan, part wall art — and impossible to make exactly twice.
These vibrant Bolga fans are handwoven in Ghana using traditional elephant grass, creating a sturdy yet lightweight piece that is both decorative and functional.
Use yours as an actual fan on warm summer days, or hang it on the wall as a colourful piece of woven art. Group several together for an even stronger statement.
We source these pieces through Bachir, a long-time specialist in African art and craftsmanship based near Marrakech. For years, he has travelled throughout Africa in search of remarkable handmade objects — from Ghana to Mali, Burkina Faso, Mauritania and beyond.
Our connection with Bachir goes back more than ten years. What started with sourcing soon became something much more personal: visits to the family home, Friday couscous and the grandmother’s traditional tea ceremony. Exactly the kind of relationship behind many of the objects we bring home for SOUK.
