Meet NABTA — a small Boujad that feels almost like a painting in wool.

I found this one at the criée berbère in Marrakech and was immediately drawn to its unusual composition.

Deep burgundy forms the heart of the rug, surrounded by olive green, soft mint, charcoal, cream and unexpected touches of peach and lilac. Rather than a repeating pattern, NABTA is built around one strong central shape, with smaller abstract forms, lines and irregular details appearing all around it.

Look closely and there’s something new to discover everywhere. The motifs shift in scale and direction, colours overlap and nothing is perfectly symmetrical. It’s precisely that freedom that gives this piece so much character.

Hand-knotted in wool, NABTA has a wonderfully tactile pile and all the irregularities that make a handmade Boujad feel completely different from something designed on paper.

At 168 × 118 cm, it works beautifully as a smaller statement rug — but this is also one of those pieces we genuinely love on the wall.

Rug or art? NABTA can quite happily be both.

CARE

Regularly shake out or gently vacuum using low suction and without a rotating brush.
Rotate occasionally for even wear and air outside from time to time to keep the wool fresh.
For deeper cleaning, professional rug cleaning is recommended. Avoid machine washing or soaking.
