SOUK in the CITY
Vintage Boucherouite Rug — ZILA | 130 × 90 cm
This is a one-of-a-kind handmade piece.
Small irregularities in shape, weave and colour, as well as subtle traces of its previous life, are part of its unique character.
Meet ZILA — a small vintage Boucherouite with a wonderfully graphic mix of colour and texture.
I found this one at the criée berbère in Marrakech, where local rug traders gather and bid on unique pieces brought in from the surrounding regions.
Woven from repurposed textiles, ZILA combines soft grey and blue with touches of yellow and burgundy in that perfectly imperfect way we love in vintage Boucherouite rugs.
RUG OR ART?
At 130 × 90 cm, ZILA is an easy little tapis-tableau — small enough to hang as textile wall art, but just as charming on the floor.

CARE
Boucherouite rugs are generally made from repurposed cotton and textile fibres.
Smaller pieces can usually be washed carefully on a cold, delicate programme with a mild detergent. Avoid high-speed spinning and let the rug air-dry naturally.
As every vintage Boucherouite is different in composition and age, spot cleaning or professional cleaning is always the safest option when in doubt.
